Anguilla Background and Location

Anguilla is one of the few remaining British overseas territories in the Caribbean region. It is a low lying island; made mostly of coral and limestone giving rise to the island’s key geographical attribute - its magnificent and sprawling white sand beaches.  Anguilla has an arid landscape spanning just 16 miles long and 3.1 miles wide (at its widest) and Anguilla does not have much arable land.

A 2006 census indicated that Anguilla has a population of about 13,600 people. Since Anguilla land is not suitable for agricultural purposes and the country itself has very few natural resources - the island’s main industries are tourism, offshore company services, offshore banking, fishing and boat building.
